Surely breathing is just something we do, right?
Well actually no... it depends on HOW and WHERE you are breathing.
Actually, so many people do not breathe optimally. And this can have a negative impact on EVERY system in our body...from our digestive system to our brains.
- Our digestion and ability to absorb and process our food
- Sleep patterns
- Energy levels
- Our ability to manage stress
- Hormone balance... and so much more.
But why? Well one of the main ways is the impact on our nervous system, especially the vagus nerve.
When we breathe in a dysfunctional way, our bodies are geared for fight or flight. Stress hormones are released and our body shuts down non-essential functions - such as digestion and even our brain power. Our body and mind simply cannot function in an optimal way.
Functional breathing patterns stimulate the vagus nerve, activating the rest-digest arm of our nervous system. This is where true healing, relaxation, stress relief and optimal wellness can occur.
Just Breathe is a weekly 30 minutes lesson, starting Wednesday 28th April at 2pm.
The 6 weeks of lessons are taught live on Zoom - but don't worry if you can't make it live. Every lesson is recorded, for you to catch up and practice in your own time.
In these weekly 30 minutes sessions, I’m going to teach you some foundational functional breathing techniques that you'll be able to use for the rest of your life. These include:
- How to breathe in a functional way… belly first, without force or effort
- 3 Part breath and how to fully relax into your practice and support lung capacity
- The use of breath retention to support your wellbeing and stress management
- Ancient breath techniques such as alternate nostril breathing, humming bee breath and many more
- Using the Inner Vayus as a daily meditative practice
- Guided mindfulness practices to help you de-stress, unwind and feel more present and alive
Just £37 for the 6 week course – with ongoing access to the recordings to catch up in your own time, and continue your practice.
The live class is every Wednesday at 2pm on Zoom. But if you can't make it live - don't worry, you'll have ongoing access to the recording.
Most breathing practices are safe for anyone to use. They can be practiced sitting on the floor, some can be done laying down, or sitting in a chair. I'll guide you through each technique, and how to get the best out of your practice.
Just Breathe is ideal for anyone who struggles with stress or busy-ness, and wants to find new tools or techniques to integrate into your daily life. You may have some health issues, and want to find ways to help manage your stress hormones and the effects they have in your body.
Just Breathe is simply about finding 30 minutes in your day to truly relax, restore and get back to the present moment.
I’ve also found breathwork practices like this hugely beneficial for people experiencing digestive issues, including constipation and IBS.
What equipment will I need?
I recommend using a yoga mat or a comfy rug with lots of cushions to help you sit comfortably and still. But you can also practice in a chair with an upright back. That's it - nothing else is needed.
In my experience, functional breath work can have such a profound impact on your health. The more you practice, the more you’ll experience its benefits.
